This song was born in the world on Jan 26, 1970, written and composed by Paul Simon. He won a Grammy award and his album had reached six million. The song ranked first on the Billboard chart for six times. The lyric was so beautiful that it was sung in many churches as a gospel song. Actually it has a strong influence from Gospel song writers.
It is the song that inspired bravery to the dark moments of my adolescence. I cried and cried thinking the Lord was singing to me. I scarcely sang or listened to the song but shedding tears.
I dedicate this song to my fellow workers, especially to who is undergoing English Seminar, so that it will be a great comfort and hope.
When you're weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I'll dry them all (all)
I'm on your side, oh, when times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you (ooo)
I'll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

Some say ‘Silver Girl’ in the third verse of the lyrics is drug. But it comes from misconceptions about the song. The third verse was written by Peggy Harper, Simons’ wife. She beautified her hair as ‘silver girl’ because it turned gray.
It’s like the muddy water of Mississippi is expressed beautifully as ‘gold stream water’.
Anyway, the Lord is the Bridge over troubled water in this world. Songwriter Paul Simon insisted this song be played in the Gospel song piano style. That’s why it can be seen as a kind of Contemporary Christian Music.
